Training a child on a specific dance syllabus prepares the child for dance but:
- Does it give the child all the necessary tools to become a performer?
- Does it challenge their artistic expression or only their technical ability?
In order to achieve both, learning a dance syllabus must be an educational journey and not simply a technical overload. It must be a pathway to the stage or a professional dance company, if we are to develop resourceful, competent, all round artist, or, at the very least, expose the pupils to new dance styles lest dance becomes dated and too rigid for them – teachers, while heading in one direction must now be prepared to zig zag!
Teachers of dance need a more up to date syllabus incorporating a wide range of styles. Dancers need a broader exposure to all dance forms through short solos of varying styles and difficulties.
The Theatre Dance syllabi, covers a broad range within each style that is flexible enough to change with the times and to be performed using current musical styles. The syllabi is fun, innovative and current.
“A child who is stimulated will learn more readily and perform better.”
- We are confidant that the Theatre Dance syllabi will look after the pupil because our main focus is on the teachers. It is in our aim to fully expose the teachers to their full teaching potential and in many dance disciplines and styles – creating versatile, competent Theatre Dance teachers who are more than capable of preparing pupils for a career on stage.
Our ‘hands on’ approach gives the teachers all the tools they need to prepare dancers who are ‘performers’ as well as technicians.
The Purpose of The Theatre Dance Syllabi
- To maintain teaching standards whilst encouraging dance as a recreational and vocational activity.
- To provide teachers with a syllabi that will take them into the 21st century on a new and exciting teaching journey.
- To provide future teachers with a qualification’
- To provide teachers with a structured curriculum that allows them to teach with a technique and assist them with current trends and styles as applicable to this day and age.
- The Association conducts examinations which provide an externally assessed indicator of the pupil’s aptitude and level of advancement, plus a prescribed level for the pupil to work towards.
- Teachers request their exam session when they feel their work is ready so as not to tie them down to a particular month of examining that may jeopardize their involvement in something else or force them to enter pupils who are not necessary ready.
