Janice Tighe - Having matriculated in 1990, Janice decided to pursue her love of dance and enrolled at the University of Cape Town’s School of Dance where she graduated from the Teachers Training Program with Distinctions in choreography, contemporary dance and dance teaching methods. She went on to qualify as a ballet teacher for the Royal Academy of Dance and continued to study further to obtain her Advanced Teachers qualifications in modern dance from the A.I.D.T. and a folk dance teaching qualification from the ISTD.
Taking up an employment offer from the Canadian branch of the AIDT, Janice traveled to Canada where she spent seven years working as the Artistic Director of Gemini Dance Studios, teaching and choreographing for the school’s Performing Arts program. With her accumulated knowledge and hands on experience, Janice trained the Canadian dance teachers in the AIDT method and entries into International Dance Competitions brought her numerous choreographic awards and a highly respected recognition in and amongst the broader dance fraternity.Upon her return to South Africa in 2003, Janice enrolled at the Renee Watson Pilates Studio where she completed her full mat and equipment Pilates qualifications and where she currently holds the position of Senior Lecturer. In 2008 Janice qualified as a certified Pilates Teacher with the Pilates Method Alliance giving her certification on an International level and completed the GYROKINESIS® Foundation Teacher Training Course.
Janice’s overseas experience and dance background, together with her obvious talent and choreographic abilities, made her an obvious and valuable choice for the board when the THEATRE DANCE ASSOCIATION, a Dance Syllabus Dance Teachers Organisation, was established in 2004. With her in depth knowledge of the body, her creative mind, boundless energy and dedication, Janice now divides her time between the Pilates studio and the Theatre Dance Association doing what she does best - creating new and exciting opportunities for clients, teachers and dancers alike; teaching, lecturing, choreographing; inspiring and motivating the many people who work with her on a daily basis. back
